RIM’s Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) is still the most secure way to mobilize your Lotus Notes and Domino mail, calendar and contacts on your Blackberry devices. For small and medium sized businesses you can also take advantage of the recently introduced Blackberry Enterprise Server Express (BES Express) for Lotus Domino to perform most of the same functions as the Blackberry Enterprise Server at no additional server or client access licensing software cost.
IBM has recently introduced Lotus Notes Traveler as a way to get push mail, calendar and contacts to non-Blackberry devices such as the iPhone, Android, Nokia, Windows Mobile and more. However, Lotus Notes Traveler does not support Blackberry devices. Furthermore, to setup Traveler to communicate as securely as BES does with its own Blackberry devices, you have to install additional secure communication software such as Lotus Mobile Connect at additional software server and client access licensing costs.
If your organization has many or mostly Blackberry users, then BES or BES Express would be a great addition to your Lotus Software arsenal to make your employees more productive and keep them connected without being tethered to their laptops and PCs.
Computer Architechs International focuses on providing mobile solutions for Lotus Notes and Domino systems. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need assistance with a BES server that is already installed or if you need one to be installed from scratch. We can also work with you to allow Lotus Notes Traveler and BES to coexist in the same Lotus Domino environment so you can support as many of your mobile users as possible.
